ZIMBABWE IN CRISIS: MNANGAGWA FACES FIERCE OPPOSITION FROM WAR VETERANS

Zimbabwe is in deep political trouble again. There is a serious fight in Zanu PF, the ruling party. President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga are battling for power. This has made things worse in a country already struggling with economic and governance problems.

One of the biggest voices in this fight is Blessed Geza, a war veteran and former Zanu PF central committee member. Geza has been very outspoken. He wants Mnangagwa to leave power now. He is against Mnangagwa’s plan to stay in office beyond his second term, which ends in 2028. Mnangagwa says he is following the constitution, but his supporters are pushing for an extension until 2030. Many people believe this is a trick to give him a third term.

Geza has not backed down. He has warned Mnangagwa to step down or face consequences. At one point, a social media post said Mnangagwa had 10 days to leave. Geza later denied making the threat. But he continues to say Mnangagwa must go. He also claims that he and his supporters will occupy the State House. Geza says the “real drama” is coming soon. This shows that Mnangagwa has strong enemies within his own party.

This situation reminds many people of the past. The late opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai once tried a “final push” to remove Robert Mugabe from power. Now, Geza is doing the same against Mnangagwa. War veterans are known to be powerful in Zimbabwean politics. If they turn against Mnangagwa, things could get very dangerous.

Zanu PF has expelled Geza, but this has not stopped him. War veterans say they will not leave Zanu PF just because Mnangagwa is in charge. They remind people that Mnangagwa was not in the war like them. He was trained but did not fight at the front. Many war veterans now see him as a dictator who has failed Zimbabwe.

Most Zimbabweans are tired of Zanu PF’s fights. They no longer trust the party. Even if Chiwenga takes over, many do not believe he will bring real change. But the people still want Mnangagwa gone. Zimbabweans have suffered under his rule. They see his government as corrupt and oppressive. The economy is in ruins, and human rights violations continue.

Mnangagwa has been in politics for a long time. He was Mugabe’s right-hand man for many years. He was in charge when thousands of people were killed during the Gukurahundi massacres in the 1980s. When Mugabe was removed in 2017, Mnangagwa promised a “new dispensation.” But he has continued Mugabe’s ways. His government arrests opposition members and controls the media. Many believe Zimbabwe is still under dictatorship.

Geza and the war veterans accuse Mnangagwa of destroying Zimbabwe. They say his government is full of nepotism and corruption. The international community has also noticed. In 2020, the United States imposed sanctions on Mnangagwa’s close allies. The United Kingdom has also taken action against his officials. Many countries believe Mnangagwa’s government is failing to respect human rights and democracy.

Mnangagwa now has two big problems. The first is the anger of the people. Zimbabweans want change, and they are tired of oppression. If the army stops supporting him, he will lose control. The second problem is the powerful people inside Zanu PF. His former allies, including Chiwenga and war veterans, are now against him. If they unite, they could remove him just like he removed Mugabe in 2017.

What happens next depends on the army, war veterans, and the people. If Mnangagwa cannot control the situation, he might lose power. Zimbabwe is entering a dangerous period. The fight for power could turn violent. Many people fear that history will repeat itself. One thing is clear: Mnangagwa’s future is uncertain, and Zimbabwe’s crisis is far from over.
